June 2nd-3rd 2007 Tonka Splash - Champions

The Eden Prairie "Force" U11-C2 Boys soccer team claimed its second tournament championship of the young season by winning the Tonka Splash Tournament in Minnetonka June 2-3. The road to victory started poorly when the Force dropped its 8am Saturday morning opener to a pesky Coon Rapids team. EP carried the action, but couldn't shake off the early morning cobwebs and lost 3-2 on a late second half goal. The Force woke up and dominated Game 2 Saturday afternoon, soundly defeating Bloomington 7-1. The relentless EP attack was too much for Bloomington as EP cruised to an easy victory on balanced scoring. Next up was host Minnetonka, which had easily won its first 2 games and lead the tournament going into Day 2. The Force was in third place and needed a victory to have any chance to advance to the finals. The team responded with a solid 4-1 performance, knocking Minnetonka to third place and out of the tournament, setting up a rematch with Coon Rapids for the championship. With Saturday's defeat fresh on their minds, the Force came out with something to prove. EP scored early and dominated the rest of the game, defeating Coon Rapids in a 5-0 shutout and claiming the Tonka Splash 2007 Championship.

  May 18th-20th 2007  Wing's Invitational Tournament - Champions

The Eden Prairie "Force" U11-C2 Boys soccer team kicked off its 2007 season by winning the 9th Annual Wings Soccer Club Invitational Tournament in Brooklyn Park May 18-20. The road to the championship started off on the wrong foot when the Force lost its Friday night opener 2-1 to a determined Plymouth team. The teams were evenly matched, but EP's bid for a tie fell short when late in the game a shot bounced off the goal post and the Plymouth goaltender scooped up the rebound. The Force dominated Game 2 Saturday morning, but they were only able to scratch out a gritty 2-1 victory over a persistent North Metro United team. Two first period goals held up, and this time the post was EP's friend when a shot in the second half bounced off the EP goal post and carromed across the front of the net before being cleared by the alert EP defenders. Going into Sunday's Game 3 EP needed to score at least 3 goals the to advance to the championship. A motivated EP team soundly defeated St Croix 4-1 to win their bracket by points and advance to the championship and face an excellent Blaine Blue Thinder team. In the championship tilt Blaine clearly carried the attack, and EP's best chance to score fell short when a header bounced or the crossbar midway thru the second half. The stingy Force defense held firm, and at the end of regulation time the game was tied 0-0. Two five minute overtimes went scoreless and the match moved to a 5 player shootout. Each traded goals in the first 4 rounds, and then Force goaltender Alex Korn knocked away a shot labeled for the top corner. With the championship at stake, Matt Murakami buried EP's 5th and final attempt to give the Force a 5-4 shootout victory and kick off the celebration.
