EPSC GOALKEEPER PROGRAM
Nick French
Goalkeeper Trainer
The EPSC Goalkeeper Academy provides top-tier instruction to help our goalkeepers develop essential skills and confidence between the posts. Led by former St. John's University goalkeeper Nick French (U13–U19) and experienced goalkeeper coach Josh Jurek (U9–U12), our staff offers age-appropriate, high-level sessions designed to push players to excel at every level of the game.
Many of our players have already benefited from Nick’s expert coaching over the past two seasons, building strong technical foundations and tactical awareness in goal. Josh joins the program bringing over 10 years of goalkeeper and soccer coaching experience across the college, high school, and club levels. He previously served as the Women’s Goalkeeper Coach at Augsburg University, Macalester College, and Concordia College-Moorhead. His background also includes extensive work with high school programs at Duluth Denfeld, Hill-Murray, and Waconia, along with competitive local club teams including Fusion, TFE, St. Croix, and Waconia. Josh holds a U.S. Soccer C License and an Advanced National Goalkeeping Diploma, bringing advanced goalkeeper-specific methodology to our U9–U12 players.
Our goal is to ensure goalkeepers start learning the basics of the position at a very young age. Goalkeepers will continue to build on their skills and knowledge at each level so that by the time they are in high school, they have mastered the fundamentals and have confidence in the position.
U9-U10 GOALKEEPING:
- Learn catching basics
- Learn how to distribute the ball properly
- Learn basic diving principles
All players should be rotating through the position, as well as playing on the field at the U9-U10 level.
U11-U12 GOALKEEPING:
- Continue to perfect the basics of catching, ball handling, and distribution
- Learn how to safely and properly dive
- Learn proper positioning in goal
- Learn to communicate to field players
U13-U14 GOALKEEPING:
- Master catching, ball handling, and distribution
- Master diving technique and comfort level with diving during regular game play
- Gain confidence and continue to communicate with field players
- Continue to recognize and perfect positioning in goal
- Learn how to read the game and help direct teammates
U15-U19 GOALKEEPING:
- Master positioning in goal
- Repetitively work on the fundamentals of the position to continue to grow
Goalkeeper training at the younger age levels is incorporated into team trainings led by the team coach, whereas goalkeeper training at the older age levels consists of individual higher intensity, game-like trainings to help push keepers to their full potential.
